Understanding the genomic basis of adaptation is a fundamental question in evolutionary biology with far-reaching implications, including for climate change, biodiversity, biological invasion, pest control, and plant and animal health. How environmental change affects the genetic composition of populations is still poorly understood: questions such as how rapidly adaptation can occur, and at what spatial and temporal scales, remain largely unanswered. As a result, several important questions, such as whether substantial environmental changes result in reduction of native European species, lead to their rapid adaptation, or favor invasive species, remain open. The DrosEU consortium is providing an exciting platform to tackle these issues by applying genetics, bioinformatics, and state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology and analyses to one of the most tractable organisms, the fruit fly Drososphila melanogaster and its relatives.
The scientific goal of this meeting is to discuss the latest insights from the DrosEU community, including invited talks from senior PIs, and contributions from other species to put the results in a broader perspective.”
We are excited to host the European Drosophila Population Genomics Consortium (DrosEU) meeting in Wageningen this year! We are looking forward to two days of exciting science and we cordially invite you to join as well.
Venue
The meeting will be held on the Campus of Wageningen University, in room NcountR of the Impulse building.
Everything you need to know when you come to Wageningen for the DrosEU meeting (8-9 May 2023)
Registration
Members of the Wageningen Graduate School can register for free, for other participants we charge €25. Please note that coffee, tea, and lunch are included. You can register here, https://www.pe-rc.nl/DrosEU.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
Bas Zwaan, Joost van den Heuvel, and Marjan Kampinga (on behalf of DrosEU)
Programme
The first day symposium on Evolutionary genomics of adaptation in natural populations is a mix of contributing talks and two exciting keynote speakers, with not only Drosophila being the star of the show. The second day will the DrosEU consortium meeting proper, but please indicate if you would like to join to see for yourself what it is all about. Please ee the next pages for a detailed programme.
