Principal Investigator

Research interests:

My main interest revolves around metabolism, with a keen interest on mito-nuclear interactions. For this I have taken a dual approach, whereby I am examining global patterns of mtDNA diversity and also trying to understand the molecular underpinnings/consequences of incompatibilities between the two genomes. I am also interested in sexual dimorphism in nutritional requirements.

 Research organisms:

Drosophila melanogaster.

 Expertise:

  • We have the capability of perform large-scale phenotypic screens in our lab.
  • In addition, we use high resolution respirometry to examine tissue-specific mitochondrial function in Drosophila.
  • We have expertise using the “Nutritional Geometry Framework”, using fully synthetic Drosophila diets.
  • On the bioinformatics side, we mainly analyse RNASeq and metabolomics datasets.
